Last tranche of homes at Saighton Camp approved

The final phase of development at an 85-acre former army camp in Huntington, Chester, is set to go ahead after planning permission was granted to Elan Homes and Rowland Homes for 105 houses.

Elan and Rowland, advised by planning consultancy Hourigan Connolly, submitted a joint reserved matters application to Cheshire West & Chester Council for the final piece of land at Saighton Camp, a 9.4-acre plot known as Area C.

On the southern section of the site, Elan will build 40 homes; while on the northern parcel of land Rowland will build 65 properties. Both areas will be accessed via Sandy Lane and will be marketed as Westminster Place.

A quarter of the properties at Westminster Place will be affordable homes; 10 of which will be provided by Elan and 16 by Rowland.

Between them, the two housebuilders will invest more than £455,000 in education. They will also produce travel plans at a cost of around £113,000.

Marie Morris, sales director for Elan Homes in the North, said: “As a Cheshire-based business we’re excited to be part of the regeneration of the former Saighton Camp site, bringing the land back into good use by providing high quality housing. Work to prepare the land is now underway and we’ll soon be building a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom mews and detached designs. Because both Elan and Rowland are building family homes, it’s important that we support schools and as such we’ll be investing heavily in education for the benefit of those already residing in the area as well as those who will live in the new homes.”

Rowland will offer a choice of one-bedroom apartments, and three- and four-bedroom homes.
