Lancaster Aldi gets go-ahead from council

Aldi has secured planning permission for a 19,500 sq ft site at Aldcliffe Road at Lancaster City Council’s committee meeting on 24 June.

Avison Young, acting on behalf of Aldi, secured rights for the redevelopment of the brownfield land which currently comprises of a B&Q store and car park. The B&Q is set to be demolished, and rebuilt to house Aldi’s retail and warehouse space, and the 18,500 sq ft car park will be redeveloped to hold 98 car parking spaces, 5 motorbike spaces and 10 cycle spaces.

This plan is set to create 30 jobs for local people.

Lauren Neary from Avison Young said that “the new store forms part of Aldi’s wider expansion plans and will provide a genuine affordable offer for the residents of Lancaster that is so desperately needed.

“The application has been subject to extensive discussions with the council to ensure the development does not impact on surrounding residents. The finished product has been designed to significantly improve the site, offering a sympathetic addition to the local community.”

Design plans were provided by The Harris Partnership and landscape design by Vector Landscape Design.
