Knowsley to decide on Kirkby homes in July

Warrington-based affordable housing provider Your Housing Group has submitted an application for 266 houses on a derelict 16-acre site off Whitefield Drive.

The development is made up of two-, three- and four-bedroom units.

Of the 266 units, 212 would be affordable homes, split equally between shared ownership and affordable rent, and the remaining 54 houses would be available for private rent.

A decision from Knowsley Council is expected in July, with multidisciplinary firm Engie already lined up as lead contractor.

The architect for the scheme is Eden Building Design and Iceni is planning consultant.

Richard Jones, director of growth for Your Housing, said: “This development will provide much needed affordable homes and enable many local people to take their first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.”

Pete Hayes, head of land and partnerships at Engie, added: “The plans focus on creating a new family orientated community with a range of homes for all ages, helping with the continued rejuvenation of the wider area of Kirkby and Knowsley, while also complimenting the regeneration of Kirkby town centre.”

Knowsley Council acquired housebuilder St Modwen’s Kirkby assets towards the end of 2019 to help it progress its large-scale town centre regeneration plans.

So far, work has begun on phase one of a retail development north of Cherryfield Drive. Meanwhile, in March, the council announced it would launch a consultation into the next phases of the development after concerns over housing were raised by local residents’ group Vision Kirkby.
