Kirkby Valley Golf Club masterplan comes forward

The owner of the golf club next to the M57 has put forward an initial masterplan for the site including an adventure golf course, a 65,000 sq ft sports hall, clubhouse, football pitches, and tennis courts.

The initial proposals include a comprehensive overhaul of the golf course including the demolition of the existing clubhouse and replacing it with a “fit-for-purpose” facility; outdoor tennis courts; football pitches; a single-storey driving range; bowling green; a lake; adventure golf; and additional parking.

The new clubhouse would extend to around 22,000 sq ft, while the driving range building would be 16,000 sq ft. The largest element is the sports hall at more than 65,000 sq ft.

The course sits off the A506 and the M57 within Knowsley, and is owned by Liverpool City Council, which leased the course to operated L32 in March 2019. The outlined investment in the course is set to be in excess of £10m.

L32, part of Green Circle Estates which also controls Allerton Manor Golf Club, also previously operated Formby Hall Golf Club.

An EIA for the redevelopment of Kirkby Valley has now been submitted by Roman Summer with a planning application likely to follow in the coming months.

The new-build elements, said the planner, would be “in keeping with a modern, good-quality golf course”. Roman Summer’s EIA said: “The golf driving range is clearly compatible with a golf course and will introduce an exciting new facility likely to attract more custom.

“Likewise, the adventure golf facility will attract a wider range of customers and introduce youngsters into the world of golf in a fun, informal way.

“Whilst the proposed soccer, tennis and bowling facilities are not directly golf related, they are complementary as a sport facility such as this and will extend and improve the overall sporting offer to the local community.”

Alongside Roman Summer, the professional team on the project includes RGP Architects, Prime Transport, International Design Group, and Graeme Ives Heritage.

These chaps have done a great job transforming Allerton Manor, to their credit (not withstanding their Marmite proposals for the hotel element). They know what they’re doing and I hope these proposals are welcomed.

This sort of investment will undoubtedly benefit a wide area, located in Knowsley but on the Liverpool side of the M57. Good news for Knowsley also in the metro mayor’s announcement today of a 2023 completion for the new station at Headbolt Lane for Tower Hill and Northwood.
