Kearsley on track for 36 homes on former railway line

Bolton Council has approved plans from W. Maher and Sons for a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom houses off Springfield Road.

The site in question is a former railway cutting, accessed from the south by Springfield Road. Currently a ditch, more than 50,000 cubic metres of clean fill material will be required to level out the site.

The proposed houses, designed by D2 Architects, would be built in a linear arrangement, while the housing mix would see four one-bed, 12 two-bed, and 20 three-bed houses built, with none rising higher than two storeys.

A planning statement submitted by Axis Planning Environmental Design indicates each property would have two parking spaces, one in a drive and one on-street spot.

Green space areas would cover 1.6 acres, including a half-acre plot which would adjoin Sparrows Park to the site’s north.

On the project team are Weetwood, Geographical Engineering Operations, JCA Arboricultural, Highways Engineering, NVC, and Noise & Vibration Consultants.

for the love of… Please do not build on derelict railway lines!!
It makes it impossible in the future to reinstate them if needs be

I can’t get on Bolton’s portal, but this alignment goes directly beneath the main road and connects to Stoneclough. The bridge hasn’t been infilled. One would hope that the estate road will be connected for walking and cycling to Stoneclough at one end, and south towards Blackleach Park (again walking and cycling) at the other.
