Hydrock appoints director of civil and structural engineering

Victoria Checkley has joined the multidisciplinary engineering company’s Manchester office from Curtins, where she was design director.

As director of civil and structural engineering in the North West, Checkley will champion Hydrock’s work crafting sustainable, low-carbon, and efficient structures.

Checkley has nearly three decades of experience in engineering, having also worked at Wilde Consulting Engineers and BWB Consulting. She has worked in nearly every sector: commercial, industrial, residential, education, leisure, and even wastewater treatment works. Checkley also has experience in retrofit, which fits with her passion for helping the built environment combat climate change.

Her past projects include Salford University’s Energy House 2.0, HBD and Greater Manchester Pension Fund’s Island office complex in Manchester, and North Manchester General Hospital’s adult acute inpatient mental health unit.

Checkley began her role in March and has already impressed Danny Hope, Hydrock’s North West regional director.

“ Victoria’s experience, and undoubted talent, to our multidisciplinary team is a real win,” Hope said.

“Within the first few weeks, her structural engineering ingenuity and passion for weaving strength and responsibility into the very fabric of our built environment has been clear for all to see,” he continued.

“Furthermore, we’re impressed with Victoria’s track record across a number of high-profile projects and across a huge variety of sectors which complements and enhances our existing skills and capabilities.”

For her part, Checkley said she was happy to be part of Hydrock.

“The opportunity to work alongside, grow, and learn from complementary engineering disciplines on a daily basis is something I’m really excited about,” she said.

“It’s a fantastic local team, blessed with outstanding talent, who have all been so welcoming. I’m looking forward to working with new clients, on sustainability-driven projects, and achieving even more as a group.”

Hydrock is a global consultancy offering a broad variety of services including sustainable masterplanning, MEP, flood risk assessments, energy storage, and digital golden thread. Hydrock has 23 offices, most of which are in the UK. Hydrock’s North West team is 130 strong and operates out of offices in Manchester, Hale, and Warrington.
