Homes get green light at Omega South
Omega Warrington has secured outline planning permission for 1,100 homes, along with shops, restaurants, and a hotel, at the southern end of the 550-acre Omega development zone.
Omega Warrington is a joint venture between Miller Developments and KUC Properties, in partnership with landowner the Homes & Communities Agency, supported by Warrington Council and the Cheshire & Warrington LEP.
Around 20% of the homes will be for first time buyers. The project includes a care home, pub, and landscaping.
Work is already underway on part of Omega South for the construction of a new primary school, Barrow Hall. The school is due to open in September 2016 and will serve existing local residents and the new community at Omega.
The plans will now be referred to the Department for Communities & Local Government before final planning permission can be issued.
Andrew Sutherland, joint managing director of Miller Developments, said: “This is a major milestone for Omega and Warrington. We hope that this will soon mean that we are able to bring forward a whole range of much needed, quality new housing, including affordable starter homes, for the area.
“Very importantly, this new development will also be supported by significant local transport infrastructure improvements and the new community will link into a 35-acre Green Heart and a huge network of green spaces and cycle ways. Both new and existing residents will also benefit from new shops, leisure opportunities and community facilities which, we’ve heard from local residents, the area really needs.”
Now that planning permission has been granted, Omega Warrington will market the plot to housebuilders, and said it has already achieved “strong investor interest”. The selected housebuilder partners will then develop detailed designs for each plot.
It is anticipated that the residential and mixed-use part of Omega will be delivered in phases over ten years, depending on market demand.
