Harworth plots 500 homes and school in Widnes
The developer wants to transform 56 acres of greenfield off Hale Gate Road into a neighbourhood, complete with its own primary school, later living apartments and a small supermarket.
On Harworth’s behalf, Avison Young has submitted a planning application to Halton Council for the building of a link road and site enabling works, as well as outline permission for up to 500 houses and 100 later living homes.
Of those homes, 20% would be designated affordable.
While still in the early stages, designs by Randall Thorp show that the site can support hundreds of terraced, semi-detached, and detached homes with between one and five bedrooms. These would sit on 34 acres of the site.
The remaining 22 acres could include a 21,528 sq ft local centre – potentially an express supermarket – and a two-form entry primary school with sports pitches.
Under initial proposals, the local centre would be along the site’s Halebank Road side, while the school would be on the western part of the site.
There would be open space and play areas in the Widnes development as well.
The project team includes transport consultant Vectos and heritage consultant Orion Heritage. Integra Consulting is supply geo-environmental and flood risk services, while Tyler Grange is leading on ecology and arboricultural impact. BWB is the consultant for air quality and noise.
