Hallam Land’s 300-home Lancs scheme deemed ‘discordant’
The land manager, part of Henry Boot, has had its plans for a neighbourhood that would increase the size of Langho by more than 30%, thrown out by Ribble Valley Council’s planning committee.
Comprising 49.5 acres, Hallam Land’s scheme would provide 300 homes, with 90 being affordable, on the land south of Longsight Road.
However, the application has been rejected on the grounds that its current iteration would create an “incongruous, unsympathetic, and discordant” development by “virtue of its overall scale and footprint”, according to a decision notice.
The notice cited the effect on public vantage points along Longsight Road, and the applicant’s “failure to carry out appropriate assessment” of biodiversity loss and damage to the natural habitat.
According to a design and access statement, the scheme would offer around 30 acres of open space. An existing footway across the site would remain, connecting residents to Langho station nearby.

Excellent decision by Ribble Valley council. Common sense prevails. So many areas have been swamped by too many new and poorly built houses, completely destroying small communities. This one-size-fits-all policy is nonsense.
