Green light for Everton-adjacent hotel

Proposals for 80 guest bedrooms in a part new-build and part-refurb project at the junction of Regent Road and Blackstone Street have been signed off by Liverpool City Council.

Although the plans were approved unanimously at committee last October, a decision notice had not been issued until last week.

As explained by Place last year, the applicant was listed as landowner Rohan Hughes, working with Fast Growth Homes. Atelier Two Architecture is advising.

The site sits directly across from Everton FC’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium, where the Blues will play from August.

As set out in the design & access statement from Atelier Two, the application now approved covered a change of use for the grade two-listed 15-17 Fulton Street, along with the erection of a new five-storey building on the adjacent corner plot.

The whole site has been empty for some years, although the Fulton Street building had been used as artist studio and living space since its original days as a warehouse.

With the club’s arrival now sealed, Everton-led leisure development is picking up pace in the area around Bramley-Moore Dock. The next site along, 57-61 Regent Street, was consented for a hotel in 2021.

A handful of pub conversion projects have been advanced, while a further applicant is to open an Everton-themed marquee fanzone called the Holy Trinity.

Fast Growth Homes have a number of sites in Liverpool with planning permission but there’s been little or no progress on them for years eg the triangular site on Scotland Rd near the 5 a side pitches. They did sell their Brunswick site to Integritas last year, who have at least made a start.
Would be great if FGH completed this hotel scheme but we won’t hold our breath.

Holy Trinity is on hold, as it seems not to have planning permission or a licence.

Great move

@ Anon 3.22pm “not required”, wrong, Everton’s capacity has increased by nearly 14,000, while Liverpool’s is now 61,000, you need to keep up.

I see Fast Growth Homes site on Whittle St/Kirkdale Rd is having to be tidied up by the City Council as it has become such an eyesore over the last 5 years. It’s full of rubbish and weeds, the hoardings have rotted and fallen down, so why would anyone be confident FGH will deliver on this hotel, my guess is it may become a matchday surface car park for the time being at least.
