CWAC set to greenlight 656,000 sq ft bottle factory
Encirc Glass’ proposals to build the automated facility next to its existing warehouse off Ash Road in Elton are recommended for approval at the council’s planning committee meeting next Tuesday.
Aew Architects designed the scheme on behalf of Encirc. Plans would see the creation of a 656,200 sq ft factory for the manufacturing and distribution of glass bottles.
The two-storey bottle factory would feature 364,500 sq ft of warehouse space and an 82,900 sq ft packaging area, as well as two 7,700 sq ft offices.
At 44 metres in height, the automated warehouse would accommodate 16 cranes for automatic stacking.
Visitors would be provided with 140 car parking spaces, including 14 electric vehicle charging bays. There would also be 20 cycle and seven motorcycle bays.
Currently vacant, the 50-acre plot was formerly occupied by the Ince A power station. The power station was closed and demolished in the 1980s.
Accessed off Ash Road and Ince Lane, the land sits on a wider 200-acre site, which currently houses Encirc’s existing warehouse.
The company first opened its Elton Facility in 2005. Since then, its workforce has more than doubled from 400 to 900.
Lichfields is the scheme’s planning consultant. The project team also includes transport consultant I-Transport, environmental consultant The Environment Partnership, and noise consultant IDOM.

UPDATE 6 JULY 2023: The application has been withdrawn from the planning committee agenda.
As a local resident of the adjacent village who suffers from traffic caused by this plant. Whilst I am pleased for the jobs – how will 500 extra people get in to work. And how many more lorries will this bring – as its all ready a massive issue with HGVs queuing before the plant gets bigger.
