CPUK completes Corner Block revamp

Building group Construction Partnership UK has completed the £6.2m refurbishment of Overseas House in central Manchester.

Now known as the Corner Block, the building sits at the junction of Deansgate and Quay Street close to Spinningfields and comprises 54,000 sq ft of offices and 9,000 sq ft of ground floor retail.

The building was acquired by a fund managed by Credit Suisse Asset Management in March 2015. The redevelopment has been overseen by Cushman & Wakefield’s Manchester office with work carried out by the city’s Fletcher Rae Architects. Overseas House was built in 1974 to designs by Leach Rhodes Walker.

Work undertaken by Skelmersdale-based CPUK included works to the existing façade with new floor-to-ceiling glazing and some structural alterations. The lobby has been extended with a new entrance added.

CPUK group managing director Steve Burke said: “We have created a stand-out modern office development that maintains the character of the original building.

“There’s a stripped-back feel to the remodelled interior. It will really be a great place to work in a prominent location in the central business district.”
