Robertson delivers at Leighton Hospital

The contractor has completed a 10,000 sq ft modular outpatients facility next to the main entrance of the Crewe hospital.

Delivery of the project for Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comes hot on the heels of Cheshire East Council approving a hybrid application, allowing Leighton’s £1.3bn redevelopment to advance.

That wider project is included in the first wave of the government’s new hospitals programme, due to the ageing estate being heavily RAAC-afflicted – including the old outpatients department.

The facility delivered by Robertson is two-storey, and will be the new home of the hospital’s audiology and ear, nose and throat (ENT) services.

It features three audiology testing booths, nine consulting rooms, an ENT treatment room, and an ENT minor operations room.

On top of this, additional work in the old department has allowed the Trust to create a treatment suite that would be used by various outpatient services. Space has also been created for future use should other hospital services need to move into the area on a temporarily or emergency basis.

Russ Favager, the board senior responsible officer for healthier futures & estates redevelopment at the NHS trust, said: “This new facility is a fantastic addition to the hospital and will allow staff to provide high-quality care to patients in a modern environment.

“While our plans are on track to build a new Leighton Hospital, this is scheduled to open in 2033. That is why this investment in the outpatients facility also demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to prioritising immediate patient care.”

Robertson is delivering a range of works across Leighton Hospital to benefit patients, visitors, and NHS staff, and is supporting the Trust with its new hospital plans through the ongoing construction of a new electrical substation enclosure.

This new facility will be retained when the new Leighton Hospital opens. Sir Robert McAlpine and VINCI Building’s IHP joint venture is in place as main contractor for the £1.3bn estate redevelopment.
