Consultation opens on Denton link road

Tameside Council is hosting a public consultation event this afternoon on plans for a new link road through Denton, running from Ashton Road to Edward Street, past the former Oldham Batteries site.

The council said that the road would be funded through £1.67m of Greater Manchester Growth Deal investment, and reduce traffic congestion at Crown Point while encouraging the comprehensive mixed-use redevelopment of the 15-acre Oldham Batteries plot, which has been vacant since 2002.

Network Space, formerly Langtree, is the owner of Oldham Batteries and is also consulting during this event on a separate application for the first phase of development.

The developer’s plan includes a mix of retail, residential and leisure uses.

A public drop in event will take place place on Wednesday 22 July 2015 at Denton Methodist Church on Hyde Road in Denton from 3pm to 7pm.

Cllr Kieran Quinn, executive leader of Tameside Council, said: “Securing £1.67m of investment from the Greater Manchester Growth Deal for the Denton Link Road is fantastic news. Redevelopment of the Oldham Batteries site has been a council priority for well over 10 years so I’m very pleased that we are now able to get that started by building the link road. I have always said that residents and businesses in the area have suffered with traffic noise and congestion for far too long. The Denton Link Road project will ease traffic congestion, provide local jobs and support the redevelopment of the area for the benefit of the local community with retail, residential and leisure.”
