Consent nears for 500,000 sq ft Wirral shed

Peel L&P and Tungsten Properties’ redevelopment of part of the former Cammell Laird shipyard has been tipped for approval by the local authority.

Wirral Council’s planning committee is due to meet next week and officers have recommended the 500,000 sq ft industrial unit be approved.

A report to the planning committee states that the development would provide a “modern employment generating facility on an allocated employment site within a designated industrial area well connected to existing infrastructure”.

The scheme would be constructed on a 22-acre site off Campbelltown Road within the 140-acre former shipyard.

Peel and Tungsten’s proposed development would comprise 465,000 sq ft of industrial space and around 30,000 sq ft of ancillary office accommodation.

The additional GVA attributable to the site once operational and fully occupied is estimated at £22.9m a year, according to consultant Pegasus Planning.

In addition, the scheme is predicted to provide 535 full-time jobs once complete.

HTA Architects is leading on the project’s design.
