Conlon finishes £10m Warrington academy

Conlon Construction has completed a 73,000 sq ft free school campus in Warrington for the King’s Leadership Academy, part of the Great Schools Trust.

Conlon took over as the main contractor in October 2015, after construction stalled when original contractor GB Building Solutions went into administration.

Designed by Pozzoni Architects, the building includes a double height colonnade, feature entrance and glazed central atrium for each wing to maximises natural light into the classrooms.

The building replaces the school’s temporary location at the Bruche Community Primary School site, Seymour Drive.

Funded by the Education Funding Agency as part of the Regional Contractors Framework, the school has been constructed on greenfield land and will accommodate up to 840 students aged 11-18, with five-form entry.

Michael Conlon, chairman at Conlon Construction, said: “Our experience in delivering education projects has enabled us to fast-track the construction programme and assist King’s Leadership Academy to take ownership of their new building.

“This school has excellent design values tailored to meet the aspirational education ethos of the Academy. We believe the high standards of construction and finish support the character of the school while delivering a practical learning environment within budget.”
