Completed motorway scheme improves Liverpool’s links
A key gateway into Merseyside has been opened today.
The new M62 junction 6 at Tarbock Island south of Liverpool opened following the completion of the free-flow lane from the M62 westbound to the M57.
Motorists have been using a new free-flow link between the M57 and the M62 eastbound since mid-November, but the new junction now means traffic heading to major attractions and destinations in Liverpool such as the docks, the airport and strategic investment areas, can now access them via the new junction.
Arun Sahni, Highways Agency project manager, said: "Completion of this key junction near Liverpool will mean that motorists will have safer, more reliable and less congested journeys. It will improve links between Liverpool and Manchester as well as play its part in the business development of Merseyside."
The Tarbock Island junction links the M62 with the M57 and the A5300. It is used by more than 113,000 vehicles a day.
Contractors Laing O'Rourke started work on the £38m scheme in May 2006.
