Civil servants move into 215,000 sq ft Blackpool office
The Department for Work and Pensions is now able to host 3,000 employees in the £100m workspace off King Street after chief contractor VINCI rounded off construction.
Fylde View rises seven storeys and provides 215,000 sq ft of workspace. The build is a cornerstone of Blackpool’s wider £350m Talbot Gateway regeneration project, being delivered by Muse with Blackpool Council.
MAKE Architects designed the block with a sustainable focus – it boasts BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and and EPC A rating, as well as making use of air source heat pumps.
Inside, open-plan working areas, meeting rooms, and quiet zones will be used by civil servants working with the DWP, who will benefit from the proximity of Blackpool North train station.
Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, called the hub “one of the most impressive builds in Blackpool in decades”, adding the success shows how the council is creating a “real central business district”.
She said: “Local people have found work and training on the construction, while the boost of bringing 3,000 workers into the town centre should be felt by many businesses.”
She added that the hub contributes a landscaped space, which adds a “lovely green oasis” to the town centre.
Alan McBride, technical director at Muse, said: “Completing the third phase of Talbot Gateway’s regeneration signifies a pivotal milestone on our journey with long-standing partners, Blackpool Council, to revitalise this iconic seaside destination and create opportunities for local people.”
Andrew Western, minister for transformation at the DWP, said the £100m civil service hub was a “landmark development” for the government department’s modernisation drive.
He added: “It will not only enhance productivity but also contribute significantly to the local economy by providing job opportunities and stimulating local businesses.”
The Talbot Gateway regeneration project has already delivered a 125,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s supermarket nearby the King Street site, along with a 120,000 sq ft office development, No1 Bickerstaffe Square.
Last month, Muse finalised terms to deliver 53,000 sq ft of office space in a six-storey block off Talbot Road at the former Apollo site.
In February 2025, Blackpool Council completed a CPO with government consent to enable the construction of a £65m Multiversity.
