Central Lancashire councils pool planning strategies
The Central Lancashire councils of Preston, Chorley and South Ribble are combining their Local Development Frameworks into a single strategy.
The three, working under the banner Central Lancashire City, are currently consulting local residents and businesses on the joint document.
Employment, regeneration and transport are all covered in the draft blueprint and specific ideas include:
- Making better use of the River Ribble, former docks and Lancaster Canal
- Develop A59 and New Hall Lane into Preston
- Creation of a new M6 junction at Chorley
- A regional design and innovation centre in Preston's former central post office
- Enhanced city parks including Avenham, Miller and Winckley Square
The three councils have already produced a joint economic strategy, outside of the planning arena, as one of the sub-regional priorities defined by the North West Development Agency alongside Manchester and Liverpool.
The deadline for comments on the draft framework is 19 December.
