CBRE appoints biodiversity net gain lead

Lucinda Lay has joined the consultancy’s regional sustainability team from Mitie, where she was head of nature and ESG programme manager.

During her time at Mitie, she worked on Lloyds Banking Group’s sustainability strategy and helped broaden Mitie’s expertise into biodiversity net gain and nature positive solutions. Among her clients were Sellafield, the Department for Transport, and Sellafield.

At CBRE, Lay will lead the sustainability team in its biodiversity net gain initiatives and advisory services. Lay will work alongside regional sustainability director Lydia Dutton in CBRE’s Manchester office.

Lay will be able to advise CBRE clients on how to react to the Environment Act 2021, which requires developers to demonstrate a 10% biodiversity net gain in any planning project. This includes how to implement effective biodiversity strategies.

Dutton praised Lay’s hire.

“As we continue to engage with our clients across the regions there is clear interest and drive to embed ESG in the North and Scotland,” Dutton said.

“Lucinda brings a wealth of sustainability experience which will add significant value and insight for CBRE and our clients.”

Lay emphasized the importance of biodiversity expertise.

“Climate change and biodiversity loss are the two significant challenges of the 21st century,” Lay said.

“Joining the CBRE ESG consultancy provides me with a new opportunity to push through transformational change within the CRE sector.  As a progressive leader with a clear vision to innovate and deliver change, I am excited to build the partnerships needed to make it happen.”
