Caddick completes £10m Loreto Sixth Form extension

The 24,000 sq ft building, known as St Vincent’s, will expand the Hulme college’s capacity by 600 students.

Caddick Construction began work on the £10m three-storey block off Moss Road West last spring and has now rounded off the build.

The £10m St Vincent’s, designed by 10architect, will sit alongside the existing Loreto Sixth Form College campus and provide 20 classrooms, a lecture theatre with capacity for 200 pupils, and a study centre.

In addition, plans submitted by the architect to Manchester City Council outlined the partial refurbishment and development of science labs in the original school building, which are complemented by a science garden with landscaped reflection spaces.

Air source heat pumps, solar panels, passive ventilation, and night cooling all contribute to the block’s sustainability credentials to enable 40% of its electrical demands to be met by renewable sources.

Dave Saville, regional managing director at Caddick Construction North West, said: “A year delivering our project at Loreto Sixth Form College has flown by, but what the team has achieved in this is exceptional.

“We’ve created a brand new, sustainability-focused campus building for education excellence, and while doing so, we’ve also worked closely with the college to support their young people.

“Our intention is always to have a positive impact throughout our work and beyond. Loreto Sixth Form College is an excellent example of this commitment.”

Michael Jaffrain, principal at Loreto College, added: “We are delighted to be expanding our campus and investing in the future of the many students who choose to study with us.

“Caddick has been highly responsive to the needs of our community, and the newly constructed St Vincent’s building and landscaped spaces are a welcome addition to the estate.”
