Bury College progresses £8.6m development
An application has been submitted for a new-build facility to deliver teaching in health, social care and tech-related courses by the Further Education provider.
Funding for the £8.6m centre is supported by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Department for Education as well as the college itself.
The professional team includes Gardiner + Theobald as project manager, Wilson Mason as architect, Waterman as services and structural engineer, landscape architect Iteriad and RLB as cost consultant.
Ridge and Partners is engaged as BREEAM assessor and highways consultant, while the planning consultant is Mosaic.
The centre has been designed to support the expansion of healthcare and digital technologies, as well as explore new opportunities for future curriculum development. It will include facilities such as a laboratory, simulated hospital ward and simulated domestic home.
Wilson Mason said that the development looks to reinforce the college’s presence at the southern approach to Bury town centre, enlivening the streetscape and significantly improving the public realm.

“The design will have a positive impact for the college’s established presence on Market Street and form a gateway for visitors to Bury Market.”
Lisa Matthews, curriculum director for adult provision & higher education, said: “The development will provide increased opportunities for individuals to study health, innovation and digital technologies from advanced through to degree level.
“These are critical employment sectors across Bury and Greater Manchester and we are proud to be expanding our offer to fully embrace them further.”
