Bridgefield project renamed Redrock
Stockport Council said its £45m Bridgefield leisure development, anchored by the Light Cinema, will be called Redrock Stockport.
Redrock is due to contain 40,000 sq ft on the site of the existing car park at Bridgefield Street. The new name comes from the red stone outcrop opposite the site.
Cllr Patrick McAuley, executive member for economic development and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "We felt the new name for the scheme had to strike a balance between creating a vibrant, urban brand while connecting with Stockport's heritage. Redrock was chosen from a number of potential names for the project. Following expert advice and testing the market, Redrock is a name that is generating the kind of buzz worthy of the project. The Redrock brand will act as a catalyst for the ongoing regeneration of Stockport and will help to boost visitors to the town centre."
Redrock will see construction of a new multi-storey car park linking to the Debenhams and Merseyway car parks, creating a total of 1,200 spaces. Up to eight ground floor units will be let to food and drink businesses and new public squares will be created with further improvements to the public realm on Princes Street, Woodman Street and Deanery Way, which will link the scheme to Merseyway and the wider town centre.
A planning application for the BDP-designed scheme is currently being considered. GVA is advising Stockport Council with Gardiner & Theobald the appointed project managers. Lunson Mitchenall is the retained letting agent.
Subject to planning, it is likely that work would start on construction in summer 2015 with the new complex opening in early 2017.
