Blears among judges of new Salford City clubhouse
Former Communities Secretary Hazel Blears MP will be among the judges at The Quays Bar at Salford's Lowry Centre this Friday choosing the winning design for Salford City Football Club's new clubhouse.
The ten shortlisted designs will be on view to the public from 10am to 2pm on the day and visitors will be able to leave their comments for the consideration of the judges.
Joining Blears on the judging panel will be: Darren Quick, Salford City FC chairman; Graham Stringer MP; co-founder of Betfred, Fred Done, and industry experts Keith Rudd from Ove Arup, John Roberts of AFL Architects and Brian Smethurst and Roy Cavanagh of G&J Seddon.
The finalists are all designs by students from the School of the Built Environment at the University of Salford.
Other judges include Eric Stokes, director of undergraduate studies at the University of Salford; Prof Mike Kagioglou, head of school at the University of Salford; Cllr Peter Connor and Cllr Derek Antrobus.
Following the judging, three designs will be selected to receive awards for build-ability, sustainability and innovation. These three winners will then attend a gala/dinner fundraiser event in the evening at Manchester United's Old Trafford Football Club where the announcement of the final design winner will be made.
The clubhouse was destroyed last October in an arson attack and SOBE students were invited to submit their designs for the new Centre. One third of the undergraduate students from SOBE took up the challenge to design the new £500,000 clubhouse.
