Bardsley wins £17m deal for New Cross StayCity
Bardsley has been chosen to deliver Manchester’s third StayCity aparthotel, a 224-bed development off Mason Street in New Cross, designed by architect SimpsonHaugh.
The eight-storey building, which secured planning approval in January this year, will house 48 one-bed and 176 studio rooms, along with a reception, café, and gym. Work started on site last month and the project is due to complete in December 2019.
Backed by funder Catalyst Capital, the professional team on the project also includes structural engineer Shed; M&E engineer JH Partners; and quantity surveyor AFA.
Dublin-based StayCity already has two sites in Manchester and has two further aparthotels under construction including the Mason Street site.
It currently operates two hotels at Laystall Street in Ancoats and another at Gateway House on Piccadilly Approach, while a 256-room aparthotel is due to open on the upper 11 floors of Property Alliance Group’s 3 St Peter’s Square, currently being built by main contractor Russells.
Ged Rooney, procurement director at Bardsley Construction, said: “Bardsley is an increasingly active player in the delivery of high quality hotel accommodation in Manchester where demand for new hospitality space continues to rise as the city improves its international connections with a truly global visitor market.”
Bardsley is also on-site at an adjacent plot delivering a £15.5m, 172-room AC by Marriott hotel.
