Arcadis builds housing team with regeneration lead

Arcadis, provider of design and consultancy for natural and built assets, has appointed John Carleton, formerly managing director of housing association Genesis, as head of housing and regeneration in Manchester.

Carleton will lead on Arcadis’ campaign to create a Housing for the North organisation, to address the housing shortage in the region by creating a mandate for public delivery of homes within a devolved regional structure.

As well as driving this initiative, Carleton will have wider responsibility for building client relationships, providing strategic solutions and services for the housing and regeneration sector.

Carleton joined from Genesis, which owns and manages 33,000 homes across London and the east of England, including temporary housing, rented homes and supported housing.  Prior to this, he was in corporate finance working at PwC and previously as director of the Government’s housing corporation, responsible for the North and lead on regeneration.

He said: “Population growth and the increasing focus on our regional centres means that the need for housing and urban regeneration is at an all-time high. We need to make sure that our cities live up to their potential, and in doing so that the future needs of their people are being cared for, from a social, economic and environmental perspective. This is no small challenge, and I’m excited to be joining Arcadis and working with the team to apply some big ambitions to addressing the housing crisis.”

Sounds like a good appointment. Housing for the North would be a great thing.
