The draft strategic regeneration framework for the area, to be known as St John's, is currently out for public consultation and is due to be decided upon by Manchester City Council in mid-February.
The council and Allied London are joint venture partners on the site, which is likely to receive mainly residential development. The concept designs show large family apartments, many in new towers, others in mid-rise blocks, notably on the site of the old Coronation Street set next to MOSI. There will be a greater use of softer textures at ground-level than in Allied's Spinningfields office quarter nearby.
The first detailed planning applications are likely to be for the Levitt Bernstein-designed hotel and event space at the site of the former Granada HQ and the conversion of the Bonded Warehouse into flexible workspace. Both applications are expected in the spring.
Deloitte, Ian Simpson Architects and Stephen Levrant Heritage Architecture advise Allied London.
