Allied London eyes January for fire station application

Allied London is soon to submit a planning application for the redevelopment of Manchester’s London Road Fire Station, set to include restaurants, workspaces, and a 91-bedroom Zetter Hotel.

The developer has owned the grade two-listed former fire station since last November, and has used the building for temporary uses such as food markets, and recently an ice skating rink.

Under the planning application to be submitted next year, a new venue and event space called the Fire Bar will be created by excavating space under the fire station, with access from a glass pavilion in the centre of the triangular courtyard.

Earlier this year Allied London announced that hotel operator Zetter Group would be using part of the station for its first offering outside of London. While the bedrooms will largely be installed within the existing structure, an extension providing space for 20 rooms is set be built.

Alongside its 91 bedrooms, the Zetter Hotel will include a banqueting hall and meeting rooms.

Other occupiers are yet to be announced, but London Road’s uses will centre around a spa, workspaces, apartments, hospitality, and retail units.
