Allerton Manor seeks temporary events space solution for hotel headache
The golf course’s owner remains committed to delivering the 66-bed hotel that was approved at appeal two years ago but continues to fight against economic headwinds.
Allerton Golf Trading is seeking permission from Liverpool City Council to erect a temporary 5,000 sq ft marquee in the grounds of the golf club to stage events over the next three years.
The interim solution is required as the hotel project has been held up by a range of factors including the post-Covid leisure market downturn, and its “gradual but rather than immediate” recovery, and the rising cost of borrowing, according to planning documents.
If planning approval for the marquee is secured it would be constructed in April on a site to the rear of the manor that has recently been used as a compound to support a project to improve the golf course itself.
Allerton Golf Trading is hopeful of having the hotel up and running in the next three years, subject to securing funding for the project.
The scheme was approved on appeal in January 2024 after Liverpool City Council’s planning committee had rejected it in line with officer recommendations the year before.
The city council argued that the project, which proposes extending the listed Allerton Manor upwards by four-storeys, was not sympathetic to the site.
However, the Planning Inspectorate disagreed.
Brock Carmichael Architects and Roman Summer Associates are advising Allerton Golf Trading.

If not for the Council this might be near to completion now, instead of backing the developers they sided with local objectors, there was nothing wrong with this development and probably anywhere else would have sailed through planning. I mean if the French can allow a glass pyramid in the courtyard of the Louvre then why the big deal about a 4 storey extension here.

This is the best iteration of the scheme I’ve seen. Some of the earlier versions were top heavy and kind of weird. This looks fine, so crack on I say!

As a local, who over looks the golf course, yes develop the hotel, and yes this design is better than the previous rubbish, but another outside event space, is not needed they already have a huge outdoor facility.

@Anon 12.35pm, I doubt if they would go through the planning process, and then have to fork out for the costs of hiring and erecting this marquee if it wasn’t needed or justified.

Music noise disturbance from the current indoor venue is bad enough for local residents. It is likely to be far worse from a marquee.

There are no homes that overlook this building and as for noise levels the area in question is surrounded by mature trees in abundance thus creating a natural sound break and is already on higher ground hence AllerTON.
By the way has anyone concerned about noise asked JLA to stop flying planes over said golf course and before anyone starts on aesthetics concerning the twice fire destroyed building look at Coventry cathedral.
