Allerdale seeks contractor for maritime museum
The successful bidder will work together with the council on transforming the grade two-listed Christ Church in Maryport into an educational attraction.
Allerdale Council is looking for a company to sign a one-year contract to help design and develop the Maryport Maritime Museum, helping reduce project risk, improve cost certainty, and ensure a buildable solution.
Those looking to secure the contract have until 22 November to register their interest. The opportunity ID for the scheme is DN640125 on Proactis.
Planning permission for the refurbishment and renovation has been secured, using designs by architect Buttress.
The plans call for a new floor to be installed and a mezzanine to be added. The fixed-up Christ Church building will then be granted an accessible entrance.
Christ Church’s repurposing as a maritime museum is part of Allerdale Council’s £11.5m Future High Streets Fund award from last year. Other projects include creating market event space Empire Yard and the repurposing of The Carlton into a theatre.
