Airport relief road back out for consultation
Stockport Council said nearly 9,000 people submitted responses during the first phase of consultation into the proposed relief road between the A6 and Manchester Airport.
A second phase of consultation for the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road will be open from Monday 3 June to allow residents, businesses and road users to give their views on the emerging preferred scheme.
The first phase took place between 22 October 2012 and 25 January 2013 and asked for views on the overall scheme and more specific information on different junction options along the proposed route. The second phase of consultation will run until 19 July.
Stockport Council, working with Cheshire East and Manchester, has revised proposals following feedback from the first consultation period. Revisions to the plans for the second round include details of the layouts for the six junction locations along the route, using preferences from the first round.
A spokesman for Stockport Council added: "To further reduce the noise and visual impacts of the scheme we have included additional noise fencing and low-noise surfacing, extended earth mounds, lowered the level of the road and developed mitigation landscaping along the route. Where possible, the road has been moved further from residential properties. The proposals to accommodate the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, equestrians and public rights of way have been refined."
Once the results of the second phase of consultation have been analysed, the final design for the scheme will be considered by the three authorities.
A planning application for the scheme is programmed to be submitted in September 2013.
