Addleshaw Goddard recruits partner to boost retail and consumer team

Daniel Sweeney has joined the international law firm from TLT, where he was the deputy head of retail.

At TLT, Sweeney was integral in launching the company’s Manchester office and growing its 130-person team.  Prior to joining TLT in 2013, he was a partner with Hill Dickinson.

Sweeney has experience in advising retail and consumer businesses, in particular on portfolio development and structuring.

Adrian Collins, divisional managing partner for real estate at Addleshaw Goddard, described Sweeney’s hire as a partner as an opportunity to “further build on our reputation as a first-choice legal firm for retail and consumer companies working within the real estate sector”.

Collins also said: “We have a market-leading retail and consumer team and Daniel is a fantastic addition.

“An expert in retail, he is also able to bring dedicated real estate expertise and support clients in fast-developing areas, such as the evolving relationship between landlords and retailers and growing multichannel retail platforms.”

Collins praised Sweeney’s client book, noting that it has leading consumer and leisure brands.

“Daniel’s experience in building relationships and providing strategic advice to clients in sectors where we have really strong existing synergies makes his arrival particularly exciting,” Collins said.

Sweeney shared his enthusiasm for his new role.

“This is a tremendously exciting move for me to work within a market-leading retail and real estate team,” he said. “Addleshaw Goddard has great depth of expertise in the sectors that my clients occupy and I look forward to working with the team to support our clients and develop new relationships.”

Recent deals Addleshaw Goddard has advised on in the North West include the sale of a £425.6m stake in MediaCity by Legal&General and Peel L&P to Landsec, and the purchase of Pall Mall Court by Bruntwood Works. The firm has worked with grocers, fashion retailers, pharmacies, betting shops, online retailers and more.

Addleshaw Goddard has offices throughout the world, including six in the UK. In addition to an office in Manchester, it also has offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, and London.

Other recently recruited partners at Addleshaw Goddard include Ian LePelley in Edinburgh, and Matthew Williams and Jacqueline Heng in London.
