Fylde invites ideas to shape future of St Annes prom
The local authority is calling for “innovative and deliverable” proposals for a site within the town’s Island leisure scheme.
The 50,000 sq ft saltwater boating lake is to be transformed to “shape the future of St Annes promenade and create an attractive and sustainable leisure destination”, according to tender documents.
Fylde Council wants to hear ideas from the business community and from operators about what the site could be used for in the long-term. Proposals should be for alternative uses that do not depend upon retaining or reinstating the site as a seawater-filled pool, tender documents state.
The authority would welcome proposals that “support the character, vitality, and visitor appeal of the area”. These could include:
- Short-term or seasonal installations
- Temporary attractions and activities
- Meanwhile or trial uses
- Long-term leisure operations
- Permanent physical developments.
St Annes Leisure Island also features a four-screen cinema and a fitness complex featuring a gym and a swimming pool. The lake takes up a large chunk of the complex to the north.
