Weaver Vale boosts portfolio with 117 Cheshire homes

The housing trust has acquired 70 later living apartments in Northwich and 47 affordable homes in Congleton.

Northwich apartments

Weaver Vale Housing Trust has acquired Waters Cross, an independent living project from Your Housing Group.

Delivered by YHG in 2021, the Watling Street scheme offers a mix of one- and two-bed apartments that are available for social rent and shared ownership.

It was designed by Pozzoni and replaced a vacant office building formerly occupied by Cheshire County Council.

Gemma Wood, director of new homes and regeneration at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said: “We’re really pleased to complete on the purchase of Waters Cross and welcome the existing residents into the trust.

“It’s a well-located scheme with strong links to the local community, and we want to build on that so people can stay independent and connected to the services they rely on.”

Congleton homes

L&Q has transferred ownership of 47 affordable rental and shared ownership homes off Giantswood Lane to Weaver Vale. This is second part of a stock transfer agreement signed last year. At that time, 90 homes in Daresbury and Haslington had been acquired by Weaver Vale.

L&Q new business director for the North West, Ben Townsend, said that it was determined that as a locally based landlord, Weaver Vale was better placed to care for residents of the property.

“As an organisation, we consider homes for transfer where they sit outside our core areas of Greater London and Greater Manchester,” he said.

“This supports our strategic decision to focus activity on areas where we have the greatest concentration of homes, enabling us to provide responsive, joined up services which offer best value for residents.”

Wood described the transfer as “another positive step in delivering our long-term plans to provide affordable housing across Cheshire”.

She added: “Working in partnership with organisations like L&Q helps us to continue building sustainable communities, meaning more families can access high-quality housing while benefitting from the services and support we provide as a Cheshire-based local housing provider.”
