Conversion proposed for listed Preston mill
Plans for a coffee shop and 11 apartments in a grade two-listed former mill and warehouse close to Preston Guild Hall and bus station are to go before the city council’s planning committee, adding to a spate of proposals in the area that includes the redevelopment of the Guild Hall and Guild Centre into a leisure complex and aparthotel respectively.
The proposals for the five-storey building at 21-23 Lord Street, next to the former Tithebarn pub, have been lodged by ZV Design, headed by local architect Zuned Vorajee, on behalf of NM Energy. The building was most recently used as a furniture store but has been disused since the early 1990s.
A full survey and assessment of the building has been undertaken by Garry Millar Historic Building Consultancy.
Noting that many original features remain, it is proposed that a mezzanine floor introduced at some point during the 20th century will be removed, and windows at ground and first floor that had been blocked up will be reinstated.
