Wrexham greenlights solar array

Around seven acres across two fields can be used to help power the National Trust’s Erddig Hall after a resounding vote in favour.

Wrexham Council’s planning committee met on Monday 2 March to consider the application from Dulas, a clean energy firm based in Machynlleth, working on behalf of the trust.

Officers had recommended approval, which was given by 13 votes to two.

Lying to the south of Hafod House Farm, the site is bound by the A483 to the east, the B5426 Johnstown to Bangor Road to the south and Hafod Road to the west, and residential including a nursing home to the north. It consists of two parcels of unused agricultural land.

The site also forms part of the Erddig Estate, an 18th century hall, gardens and estate which is managed by the National Trust.

The electricity generated would be used to offset the requirements of the wider Erddig Estate and help contribute to the National Trust’s overall aim of achieving net zero organisational emissions by 2030.

Also advising on the project are WFAS, which provided a glint & glare assessment, and Acstro.

Documents relating to the scheme can be seen on Wrexham’s planning portal, reference P/2025/0759.
