Work starts on Quayside’s £16m leisure pivot
Vacant shops within the Salford Quays outlet are being overhauled for Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl, which are planning to open next autumn.
Landlord Peel Retail and Leisure secured consent for the redevelopment of around 75,000 sq ft of Quayside’s upper level earlier this year, marking a decisive shift in the asset’s offer.
The £16m leisure-led scheme is aimed at creating 100,000 sq ft of big box leisure units and a more “experience-led destination”, according to Peel.
In recent years the Oxygen trampoline park, Tee Club, and Kargo food hall have diversified Quayside’s offer. As part of the project currently underway, Quayside’s food court – which was home to Burger King and Harry Ramsdens – is being scrapped.
Other non-retail occupiers include Virgin Active gym and Vue Cinema.
