Work starts on 51-home Blackpool scheme

Create Homes has begun building its Bispham housing scheme, which will comprise an affordable element to be managed by Great Places Housing Group.

Blackpool Council’s planning committee approved the 51-home Ryscar Way development in January 2022.

Now, the authority has handed down a decision notice for the scheme, prompting a start on site.

The scheme, known as The Groves, will provide two-, three- and four-bedroom executive homes. A total of 16 properties will be available on affordable tenures.

Each home will feature off-road parking and a private rear garden. The Bispham project is the first time Great Places and Create have worked together.

“The Groves is the start of what we hope will be a growing partnership and will deliver 16 much-needed affordable homes as part of this exciting new mixed tenure development,” said Nick Gornall, director of development at Great Places.

“This is one of the current sites we have in Blackpool, where we have a strong local presence with a local team managing over 1,200 homes in the area.”

Blackpool Council received £400,000 from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities via its Land Release Fund towards infrastructure costs to help open up the site to meet local housing needs.

The money will go towards improving access to the site.

Cllr Mark Smith, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for levelling up, said: “Creating new, high-quality homes is a key priority for the council, we are delighted that we have been able to release land for this development to go ahead.”

Paul Mathison, chief executive at Create Homes, said: “Following the success of our developments in Inskip, Pilling, Longton, Longridge, and Elswick, I am really delighted to be bringing another quality housing development to Bispham.”

Can’t look after the streets in the area, full of uneven paving and weeds in gullies without building any more houses!

Faraday way road is full of potholes, there’s no new facilities in the area but hundreds of houses built, what about school, drs and dentist have lived here nearly 2 years and can’t get in at an NHS dentist as nothing available only private. Who can afford that?!

Blackpool actually slightly lost population (again) in the 2021 Census. However, the resort does have a far higher than average TFR (birth rate), so family housing of all shapes (and school places) will be needed. Including aspirant housing to keep families from moving out borough.

I’m so happy that every individual who needs a home will finally get to be approved to have what we call ‘Home’.I was approved for a loan but could not afford the deposit.

They won’t be affordable for those who need rehousing. Just another land grabbing exercise, why not redevelop derelict buildings in the Blackpool area?!
