Woodford Aerodrome museum nears completion

An aviation heritage museum designed by Cassidy + Ashton and built by Conlon Construction at the former Woodford Aerodrome site is ten weeks away from completion.

The 11,700 sq ft purpose-built museum will house Avro Heritage Trust's catalogue of aviation history documents and exhibits, including a full-sized Vulcan bomber.

The project is converting an existing aerodrome fire station into an exhibition hall and mezzanine gallery, with a café at first floor level. There will also be archive, reading rooms and classrooms for school visits.

The building has been redesigned as a simple, contemporary structure with directional dark cladding. Work to the building envelope is almost complete and the finishing touches are being made to the glazed curtain walling.

The development of the museum is part of the wider regeneration of the 500-acre Woodrow aerodrome site, which is being delivered in a joint venture between Harrow Estates, Redrow Homes and Avro Heritage Trust.

Woodford is located across both Stockport and Cheshire.

Construction work is expected to finish in April, with the museum aiming to open in August.
