Housing 2025, the latest instalment of the annual conference in Manchester, feels as if it has added significance this year given the Labour government’s concerted push to deliver more homes. Place North hosted around 200 delegates for an evening of networking at the close of day one.

The event, sponsored by PlacefirstThe Casey GroupButtress and Winckworth Sherwood, saw developers, social housing providers, and investors assemble at Hotel Voco to reflect on the day’s learnings over a few drinks.

Labour’s ambitious 1.5m homes target has been called into question since the party came to power last year but the feeling in the room last night was one of optimism with many believing that, even if the magic number is not met, delivery will be significantly up compared under the current government.

From a £39bn affordable housing programme to reform of the Green Belt, those in attendance at Place North’s Housing Drinks reception had plenty to discuss.
