Willmott Dixon secures £20m Wythenshawe housing deal
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group has chosen Willmott Dixon to deliver its largest-ever housing project on a nine-acre site behind Manchester Enterprise Academy.
Designed by architect AEW, supported by planner Nexus, the project includes 147 homes for outright sale, shared ownership, and rent-to-buy. These include a mix of two-bed and three-bed houses, alongside two-bed apartments.
The site is currently used as a playing field, and also houses two tennis courts. According to planners, the playing field is under-utilised and weather-dependent, rendering it “largely unusable for eight months of the school year”.
Alongside the tennis courts, vacant properties on Greenwood Road and Gladeside Road will be demolished to make way for the scheme.
The homes will be built from timber frame, while the apartments will be built traditionally. The development will be delivered over three phases with Willmott Dixon starting work on the first phase at the end of March.
The scheme, funded by Homes England and WCHG, is due to complete in July 2020, and is being brought forward through WCHG’s development arm, Garden City Design & Build. Willmott Dixon’s contract is worth £19.5m.
Plans for the project were approved in November last year.
