Trafford Housing Trust appoints property advisers to board

John Shannon, former regional head of Wates, and Hale-based planning consultant Nigel McGurk, have been appointed to non-executive director roles at Trafford Housing Trust as part of a new organisational structure.

Trafford Housing Trust recently announced the expansion of its housebuilding plans in the North West through a £160m joint venture with London-based L&Q, alongside a partnership with Wates Living Space Homes.

Graeme Scott has been promoted to director of the trust’s development arm, and will lead on the delivery of more than 2,000 new homes in the next four years. He was previously assistant director.

The trust is also creating two senior positions for executive director for customer experience and director of social enterprise. The trust is recruiting an interim executive-level post to develop the independent living business.

Edna Robinson, chairman, Trafford Housing Trust, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Nigel McGurk and John Shannon to the board, and look forward to utilising their vast experience to inform and support the board’s approach to acquiring land for development, pre-site evaluations and planning. Nigel and John will be excellent additions to the board, and the new organisational restructure is also designed to further support the needs of the Trust and the Trust’s customers at this highly exciting time.”

Shannon left Wates at the end of 2015 and is now a consultant. He spent 13 years at Wates in senior regional and national director positions. McGurk has spent the last 15 years in national, board-level roles including advising on the Oxford design review panel and advising Blenheim Palace Estate. For the past five years he has been director of Erimax a land, planning and communities, a land and planning business.

Cllr Sean Anstee, leader of Trafford Council, is also a non-executive of Trafford Housing Trust. Other directors include Ged Lucas, retired regeneration director of Stockport Council; local resident and community worker Ian Belnavis; Labour councillor Joanne Bennett; Conservative councillor John Lamb; Trafford resident John Verbickas; accountant and former Peel director Alastair Findlay. The board is chaired by Edna Robinson, a senior NHS executive.
