Tameside care home approved
Altrincham-based independent architecture practice Pozzoni has received planning permission for a new extra-care residential scheme in Dukinfield.
The development in Ravensfield, by New Charter Housing Trust Group, will replace an existing four-storey bed sit development with 31 extra-care apartment scheme over three floors with communal spaces and landscaped gardens.
Pozzoni is a specialist in designing accommodation for older people. Residents will have their own flat entrance whilst having the security of 24-hour staff support. The development has been designed on a site with considerable level changes and will consist of a new building with one and two bedroom units, which are wheelchair accessible. In addition is a 2,500 sq ft communal wing with a lounge, bistro, a kitchen, staff offices, a hair salon and a well-being centre.
The curved building caters for the shape of the site and the slope of the hill. It also follows the path of the sun to ensure all apartments benefit from sunshine at some part of the day. A green, sedum roof is incorporated to the front of the communal area and the courtyard colonnade.
Martin Frost of New Charter said: "We are reacting to the changing needs of older people. The new Ravensfield will be a great addition to the neighbourhood, with a design that welcomes the wider community into a high quality environment. I'm confident residents, carers and all building users will be impressed with the investment we're making."
Work is due to start on site in March 2010.
