Steel frame complete at Summers Quay
The final beam of the steel structure at Summers Quay, an £8m build-to-rent scheme featuring 67 apartments in Stalybridge, has been lifted into place.
Jonathan Reynolds, MP for Stalybridge & Hyde, was invited to take part in a steel-signing ceremony at the scheme, the first private rented development to be undertaken by housing provider New Charter Group’s commercial arm Cavendish Property Developments.
Located at Armentieres Square in the centre of Stalybridge, Summers Quay comprises 22 one bedroom and 45 two-bedroom apartments and 2,600 sq ft of commercial and retail space. Taylor & Wood are appointed as agent for the apartments.
The scheme started on site in August 2016 with completion planned for spring 2018. Rowlinson Construction is the scheme’s contractor and Pozzoni its architect.
Speaking at the ceremony, Reynolds said: “The central location of this development makes it crucial to the continued regeneration of our brilliant, vibrant town. Stalybridge dearly needs a mix of new housing. These apartments will be quality, private rented accommodation delivered via a respected and responsible landlord.”
Tony Powell, deputy chief executive at New Charter Group added: “We’re creating a statement building here in Stalybridge and contributing to what is a relatively new market for luxury private rental accommodation.”
The site formerly housed the Millpond pub, which closed in 2014, and the Casablanca health club, which was badly damaged by fire in 2005.
