Primark store in Chester expected to go-ahead

Redevco has appointed architects Leslie Jones to design a double height shop front at the former Woolworths store in Foregate Street, Chester.

Chester's conservation area advisory committee, however, opposes the plans being put forward for the Redevco-owned three storey building.

The conservation area advisory committee does not believe the proposed design fits into the distinctive character of the historic town.

The existing building was designed by the Building Design Partnership.

Leslie Jones has stated the first floor brick work would be removed and replaced by full height glazing to deal with the "poor quality" appearance of the front of the building.

Fashion retailer Primark is set to occupy the building.

The application is due to be considered at a meeting at the Crowne Plaza hotel at 10.30am on Wednesday this week.
