Plans put to Wigan for grade two-listed townhouse revamp

Dorbcrest Homes has applied to the council for permission to transform derelict Georgian townhouses into a 31-home scheme.

At 1-7 Upper Dicconson Street, three townhouses would be converted into 22 apartments by adding a third floor, while the construction of a two-storey extension will provide a further nine homes.

Plans for the site, which sits within the Dicconson Conservation Area were compiled by DBR Investments and submitted to the council by Serviam Planning.

The listed building would be sensitively refurbished, and the developer will ensure the retention of the building’s original style, brick materials, and other historical features, according to planning documents.

The proposal includes seven car parking spaces, a garden, and amenity areas.

It will be great to see these grand old buildings come back to life, they’ve been boarded up for far too long and would be rightly viewed as a heritage asset if they were sat in the middle of Chester or similar.

Good to see Wigan finally getting some much needed TLC.

Who is the housing going to be for?

These buildings have been a sorry sight for decades now…but 22 apartments?7 parking spaces? This is a ludicrous plan. The extension alone will destroy the look of that area.
