Plans in for 90 homes in Carlisle
Congleton-based developer Gladman has submitted plans for a housing development at Rookery Park in Scotby, a village to the east of Carlisle.
The plans propose 90 one-to-five-bedroom homes on 13 acres currently used for agriculture on the edge of the village.
A 30% affordable housing provision would be included in the development, as part of the plans submitted to Carlisle City Council.
The site would be split into two areas “to create a sense of place and increase legibility and orientation”, according to the design and access statement prepared by Derby-based FCPR Environment and Design, the architect for the project.
Several objectors to the scheme raised concerns over the timing of the submission and the potential impact that an additional 90 homes could have on the surrounding rural community.
A report from Cumbria council’s environment officer advised that further archaeological investigation should be carried out if the scheme is approved, due the possible presence of a “small complex of buildings shown on early historic maps”.
At nearby Carlisle Cricket Club, plans to construct a pavilion were delayed when Roman artefacts were found during an archaeological assessment of the site.
