Peel Waters ready to crack on with Wirral industrial
The landowner hopes recent consents could unlock a combined 171,000 sq ft of employment space at MEA Park West, part of the Wirral Waters masterplan.
Wirral Council has approved Peel Waters’ plans for a 48,000 sq ft speculative shed east of Wallasey Bridge Road, one element of a three-part, £18m scheme aimed at industrial, manufacturing, and logistics businesses.
Earlier this year, consent was granted for the redevelopment of the 46,000 sq ft Mobil Building and a package of highways upgrades.
With approval now secured for the speculative shed and associated remediation of the wider site, Peel Waters says work on phase one of MEA Park – part of the industrial component of Peel Waters’ plans for the 500-acre former dockland in Wirral – can now commence.
Planning applications for another 126,400 sq ft of logistics space across the 12-acre complex will follow in due course.
The three applications can be viewed by searching for application reference numbers APP/25/01454, APP/25/01450, and APP/25/01452 on Wirral Council’s planning portal. Eden Planning advised Peel Waters and Broadway Malyan is the architect.
Richard Mawdsley, Wirral Waters development director at Peel Waters, said: “Securing planning consent for this next phase at Mea Park West is a significant milestone and an important step in bringing forward much needed, high-quality employment space at Wirral Waters.

He added: “This scheme is also about unlocking the long-term potential. By remediating and preparing the land, we are creating the foundations for sustained investment, future development and high-quality job creation.”
Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paula Basnett, added: “This development represents another important step forward in bringing investment, jobs and opportunities to our borough, and on top of that, it signifies that Wirral is open for business
“Wirral Council is committed to supporting business growth, and Mea Park West, located within the Liverpool City Region Freeport, will deliver high-quality employment space while transforming a currently underused dockside site.”
Anything further increasing shipping activity at Birkenhead Docks would normally be a good thing.

Oh yes, the famous architect without an office in the Liverpool City Region. That’s no chance of any architectural jobs being brought into the region whilst this gets delivered. It even says Wirral Council is committed to supporting business growth, oh the irony!

Mr Freeport. Exactly what kind of business would need office’s for architect’s? The vast majority of architectural planning can be done on a pc anywhere in the world. Your negativity suggests you don’t like any form of progress.

Alright’ Kel. If by progress you mean a growing built environment community across a city region with apprentices employed, graduates retained and new jobs created working on schemes in their area, that they can see and feel. I’m positively in favour of that kind of progress.
