Ocon claims record escalator at Piccadilly
Ocon Construction claims to have installed the longest escalator in Manchester as part of the firm's £27m Piccadilly Gate project.
The escalator is 30-metres long and was installed as part of the refurbishment of the 124,000 sq ft, ten-storey civil service offices owned by Department for Transport subsidiary BRB Residuary.
BRB was close to selling the building for £48m to a German pension fund in 2010 but the deal fell through.
Andrew Barker, managing director of Ocon Construction, said: "Piccadilly Gate is, in itself, a landmark building, thanks both to the high profile tenants now based there and to the quality and location of the development. The escalator is one of the most striking features of the building and we're delighted to have been involved in such a prestigious project right on our own doorstep."
