Northwich extra-care project approved
Nursing home specialist Springcare has won planning consent for 13 extra-care assisted living units at the edge of Sandiway near Northwich, Cheshire.
The scheme was approved on Thursday by Cheshire West & Chester Council and will be built in the grounds of Sandiway Lodge, a 36-bed nursing and residential care home set in open countryside.
Each extra-care unit will be self-contained but residents will share access to communal areas and be assisted by a team of specialist staff who will provide 24-hour nursing and residential care.
There will be 13 apartments in a two-storey L-shaped block: the ground floor will include nine extra care units each with a bedroom, living room, kitchen and accessible shower room or bathroom and communal coffee lounge/dining room, conservatory and sun lounge, whilst the first floor will include four extra care units and staff facilities.
Sarah Smith, associate director at Paul Butler Associates, planning adviser to Springcare, said: "This scheme will create a safe and sociable close-knit community whilst also helping to meet the significant need for rural care provision in this part of the borough."
